We’ve started this page to do a wee bit more in-depth reviews of the sites we use and the places we visit both at home and further afield. Might as well start with our last trip in the van. We started by heading to Durham, we stayed at Finchale Abbey Park, a lovely quiet “adults only” site, but a word of warning, it’s not flat. We asked to move from the pitch we were allocated as we would never had been able to get the van level. If we ever go back we would go for a full serviced pitch as they have concrete bases that are level. Apart from that it’s a really nice site with a small shop that sells takeaways and honey thats made onsite. Finchale is only 5 mins away from a park and ride with easy access to Durham. It’s a lovely city, very compact and dog friendly, our first time there but won’t be our last.
When it was time to move we headed for the stunning city of York, staying at Naburn Locks about 4 miles from the city, much larger that Finchale but still plenty of space. During the weekends there is a river bus that takes you into the city or you can jump on a bus that stops outside the gates. A clean site with a small shop selling all the things you might have forgotten with spotless showers and toilets. You can walk along to the Marina which has a bar and catering or stop at the pub on the way and have a decent bite to eat, lovely Sunday roast. York’s not the place to take a motorhome or car for that matter so again use the park and ride.
Our final stop was at Waterfoot Park near Pooley Bridge in the Lakes. Not somewhere we would go back to, its just a bit crammed with not a lot of space between units. It was full when we visited and it felt that way. The toilets and showers were dated but did the job. A 20 min. hike take you into the village, plenty of places to eat and drink but very busy. The rain started early evening and was still on the following morning, it made the decision easy to pack up and head for home a day early.
